so fun to see and hear some more of the making-story of this whimsical, lovely structure. i adored it as soon as I first saw it, even with its "do not enter until we get a permit" sign, I was so drawn in...delightful!

Earthdance Finally on YouTube

Whoo-hoo, I'm on the tail end of the SEEDS video-editing project and have uploaded the latest SEEDS edits onto YouTube and Vimeo.com. At last, Earthdance is findings its way towards its fifteen minutes of fame! I'm a bit bleary-eyed from the past few weeks of video-editing, but hope to add more SEEDS tidbits to the video networking sites to get Earthdance on the webby map.

SEEDS on Re-Play

Yesterday I finally scrubbed the Earthdance soil out from my toenails and gave myself a pedicure. Today I donned the high heels and suit jacket and inched through rush-hour traffic back into the office grind. I recently converted the permaculture clip in which Andrew Faust encouraged us to seek ways to earn income through making more of what we want to see in the world – agh, an admin job is not it.

At any rate, the video logging and converting continues for me in Phoenix, AZ, without my sister… Continue

Video Vixen: Let Me Objectify You

Being one of the SEEDS video archivists, I often have a camera between me and the rest of the world -- that is, when I'm not in front of the computer doing endless video logging and editing. It's a comforting role to be in for this workaholic, to have purpose beyond my personal interests, but I realize its distancing effect. At 2 a.m. the other night, as I stumbled out from my editing cubicle, Earthdance staffer Jason theatrically proclaimed that he hadn't danced with me yet, and I mumbled in re… Continue

Don't Try to Save What's Dying

Metaphors are everywhere. In our permaculture workshop, Andrew Faust said that when we're faced with plant die-off, instead of spending all our time and money on saving the plants, we're better off spending our energy on researching how to better prepare the soil and circumstances for next year. Western society is so obsessed with hands-off cleanliness that we don't know how to deal with death and dirt (or diversity) in a healthy way. "Death is a part of life," he said, echoing the words of many… Continue

Moving in Not Moving

Wednesday morning I attended Suprapto's workshop and started with a much-needed session of meditation to ground myself from wanting to do and be in too many places at once at Earthdance. Following some fifteen minutes of sitting meditation, students gathered around Suprapto to ask questions regarding the nature of non-moving movement ("Is what we just did 'dance'?") and performance.

It's still remarkable to me how one aspect of life is a metaphor for another. One student asked, "How can I more… Continue

2008 Review

The focus of SEEDS 2008 was ecology. In basic terms, ecology studies the interactions of organisms with their environment and with one other. It is a rich term because it highlights feedback and interdepende
